What is counselling?
Counselling is a regular space where you can talk about yourself and express your thoughts and feelings, in an open and honest way. You can talk about anything you want, such as past experiences or what is happening in your life right now.
In this time, I will be active at listening and understanding your experience and working with you to identify your feelings and emotions. This will help you to connect not only to current feelings, but also deep unexpressed emotions.
Each session is usually fifty minutes to an hour long and can be via telephone, video or face to face.
I provide counselling to individuals either face to face or via zoom or both.
I am experienced in helping people with issues such as:
Historic abuse
Sexual identity
Low self esteem
Family difficulties
Anger management
Relationship issues
Work related stress
Sex related matters
Bereavement or loss
Health related issues
Peri-natal depression
Personal development
Divorce and separation
How counselling helps
Having the space to talk and express your thoughts and feelings, can connect you to different parts of yourself and what you have and are experiencing. This then, connects you to your own inner knowing and wisdom, which, then helps you make the decisions you want.
Counselling can help you to:
Feel safe and supported
Encourage personal growth and development
Increase your confidence and decision making skills
Recognise unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs
Help identify triggers and onset of low mood or anxiety
Gain a better understanding of your feelings and thoughts
Find solutions to your own problems
Improve listening communication skills
Learn to understand and manage stress and anxiety
What people have said
“Joanne was so welcoming, especially with it being my first counselling. She allowed me space to tell my story and express myself without judgement.
Joanne helped me work through my patterns, my relationships and challenge my behaviours and thoughts.
This has given me the tools and prompts to support me after finishing my counselling. I have since used our discussions to improve my relationships and well-being, and have felt so much growth and confidence in doing so.
She was so supportive and reassuring in my transition out of counselling, but I also know that I can jump back in, if i feel i need to. Thank you so much”.

“I suffered massively for over twenty years with my anxiety and managing boundaries. Since coming to counselling, its allowed me to gain confidence in setting boundaries and being confident in them. Which has changed my life”.
